CHARTER REVIEW COMMITTEE

Promoting transparency, accountability, and public safety

Presenting clear, straightforward proposals to amend our County Charter

Promote budget transparency by requiring more time for the county council and public to examine annual budgets

Making the county manger present the budget to the council and public at the beginning of September instead of November will promote more public involvement and give time for more the council to examine the proposal.

I am proposing a charter amendment the will require the county to prioritize deputy funding.

Washington state ranks 51st in the country for law enforcement staffing levels and it one of the worst rated for crime levels. Prioritizing law enforcement officers is the first step to changing the trend.

Separation of powers

Providing the county council with the employees and power to investigate citizen complaints and independently audit county programs for effectiveness is essential to having representatives check and balance to the power of the executive branch.
