A commitment to action

I am a lifelong resident of Clark County, where I have established my home, family, and small business. I am announcing my candidacy for Clark County Council because I am deeply committed to both my country and county and firmly believe that constituents deserve decisive action from their elected representatives.

As your current elected Charter Review Commissioner, I have taken a leadership role on several key issues as lead sponsor. Notably, I support measures requiring the County to prioritize public safety, which would ensure adequate staffing levels for patrol deputies.

Additionally, I am advocating for reforms to the budget process that will increase online accessibility of information for the public, encourage public participation, and provide the County Council with additional time each year to review the proposed budget prior to approval.

Furthermore, I am advancing policies designed to strengthen the Council’s capacity to function independently as a legislative body, investigate public complaints, and audit the effectiveness of programs administered by the county executive branch.

We have answers

Housing affordability remains a critical concern, as evidenced by the challenges some of my own children face in purchasing a new home. What do we do about it? Many are unaware of the significant impact government regulations have on housing costs. Factors such as Growth Management Act restrictions, impact fees, zoning limitations, permitting expenses, and stringent building codes collectively contribute an estimated $164-200,000 to the cost of a new home in Washington—making it one of the most regulated and expensive states in the nation. We can revisit county GMA restrictions that exceed the requirements of state law. I will propose limits to county permitting timelines and review building codes that make it more restrictive to build in the county than in the city.

parks and trails

Promote public access to public land

North Clark County offers exceptional natural beauty, parks, and rapidly growing cities. Over the last 30 years Clark County citizens have paid for hundreds of acres of scenic and future park land. It is essential to develop promised trails within these natural areas and expand regional parks and recreation opportunities for our residents.

Changing the trend

For citizens that want reasonable public safety restored, passing a public safety amendment to our County Charter is an important initial step, but not a comprehensive solution. A County Council that supports law enforcement is essential, particularly in District 5, which encompasses nearly half of Clark County. Residents should feel assured that emergency services are staffed adequately and will respond promptly when needed, and that there will be accountability for criminal actions. Effective public safety reduces unnecessary costs for businesses and residents, which have risen due to inadequate policies.
